If you’re like us, losing your car keys must be a very common habit. Looking around in panic without knowing where you’ve kept or dropped them is an exhausting job (that many people are great at!).
If you’re more than used to this, you may sigh and remember the last place you lost them without stressing yourself out as much. However, if you’re new to losing your key and have no idea what to do, here’s a list of things you can do to find your missing keys.
Search, search, and search again
A fundamental solution to the problem, but also a very effective one. The first thing you should be doing when you lose your keys is searching for the immediate area around you. People often either forget where they’ve kept the keys or misplace them. Stay calm and check at the same place three times if you have to, small objects often miss our eyes. If you’re at home, try to remember the last place you left the keys. If you’re in a public space, retrace your steps back. You might end up finding your keys this way.
Identify the type of car key you had
Through technological advancements, our cars have progressed to the point that we now have different car keys for other vehicles. Losing your only car key means that it’s important to remember each detail of the keys and choose which category fits your keys the best. This will help you in replacing your missing item.
1.Traditional key
These types of keys have been around for quite some time. Used by people with older cars, these keys lack complexity. This makes it easier for you to replace your lost car key and drive to the place you were supposed to reach an hour ago, as it is as simple as calling a locksmith, who could make a duplicate key right at the spot.
2.Car key fob
The car key fob was made for the convenience of drivers. They have a transponder key attached to the fob, which unlocks or locks a car using a short-range radio transmitter. With this type of key, even if you lose your fob, you can still enter the vehicle using the key you have. If you weren’t as lucky and lost your key, you’d have to call a locksmith to get a new key.
3.Transponder key
If you have a more modern car, the chances are you’d have this type of key. The transponder key is a more secure version of the traditional key. It contains chips that send signals to the car before allowing the ignition to start. The process is much more difficult if you lose this type of key. It’s more expensive to replace it because it would need to be paired with the chip in your car. However, you may be able to find a spare key available at the locksmith, even if it may cost more than the others.
